Central Heating boiler wont ignite

I have a 13 yr old Myson Orion 40B conventional boiler. The other day when it was switched on it made a banging noise from the boiler itself. I have replaced the thermocouple as a matter of course but it still will not ignite in either heating or hot water modes. The pilot light stays lite the whole time. Could it be the gas valve is duff.
