My System controls are not working correctly. The Problem is intermittent. I have an oil-fired sealed system controlled by programmer, room thermostat, and two motorised valves. When the programmer shuts off the system, the pump keeps on working. The two motorised valves are working and closed. I have renewed the room thermostat and it still happens. I am woried about the pump working against resistance, so I have to switch of the electricity supply before going to bed. Should I replace the programmer? I cannot think of anything else. I am even wondering if the wiring has been upset by one of the men I have had out looking at the problem, but I do not have a wiring diagram. I do ot know how long the problem has been there. I noticed it over a year ago, but have not worried about it because it was very intermittent, but now it is getting more frequent. Any ideas, anyone? Allan.

Hello in Sutherland, What boiler do you have also it could be a faulty micro switch in one or both maotorised valves or have you got a frost stat without an interuptor (pipe stat) which is causing the boiler to fire.

Thank you for reply. I have a Firebird boiler, which seems to work perfecly, and is regularly serviced. I have no froststat, nor pipestat. The problem is simply that when the clock switches off the system, the valves close normally, but the pump keeps going, until I switch off the electricity supply. Allan.

I'd go for a faulty motorised valve, the micro switch inside could be sticking or one of the return springs has broke and there is not enough tension to pull the valve back enough to shut it and switch off the micro switch. (happened to me yesterday)

Both motorised valves were replaced when this problem first started, and it is clear that they are opening and closing correctly. The problem is elsewhere, but where? The pump keeps going and it is not the motorised valves that are the cause. Any further ideas? Allan.

Is it just the pump that runs, if it is does the boiler have a pump overrun built in (I'm not famillular with the Firebird boilers, give a model number please) or check in the inswtructions.
