Central heating system blocked?

After finally fixing a problem with our old boiler, we've been able to turn the central heating on today for the first time in about two years.

The boiler seemed to fire up OK, but the radiators didn't get very warm at all.

Given that the whole central heating system has been inactive for about two years, what are the likely causes of the radiators not getting very hot?

Is it likely that the radiators and/or pipes could have got sludged up during those 2 years or is it more likely to be a problem with the boiler itself?

And would a general service of the central heating usually include flushing out the system - if that's what we need??

Any advice much appreciated.

PS - It seems like a very old boiler, but I'm not sure of the make/model. Have added some photos, in case it helps...

Have you vented the radiators?

Cheers, yes we bled the radiators.

Does the pump run in the airing cupboard and pipes get hot?

No... In much the same way that a car service doesn't include a new clutch and head gasket.

CG, Thanks for your help. I turned it on again this morning in order to answer your question and it now runs fine!

Am going to get the boiler serviced and the system flushed (as new radiator needs adding to the system anyway).
