Central Heating system drained for a year

We are just about to move into a house that has had its water system drained for the past year ! are we likley to encounter any common problems with the central heating system , and is common practise for a system to be drained when stood empty for a period of time ?

the heating system was drained to prevent it from freezing, because there is no heating.

our resident s will need to know what make model of boiler

type of system (do you have an airing cupboard etc)

Not sure of the boiler model type but will find out tommorow, I do know its not a combi boiler and yes there is a airing cuboard !

Problems liklely are you could have sludge dried out in radiators, valves, manifold, and the pump...get some fernox or similar once you have filled the system let this stuff do its work. Then get it out and re-fill........search the forum under flushing.

Pump quite likely to hav stuck. If you undo the screw in the centre of the end furthest from the pipes, and insert a smallish screwdriver, you should be able to get it to turn. Then it should be OK.
