Central Heating won't come on, but boiler works OK

I had this problem too with the heating - no power to orange only to white (and grey) - so I moved the manual lever a bit, turned it on/off a few times and hey presto
It happend in my old house too, very similar - this time though I removed the actuator and freed the spindle and worked fine after
