Hi guys hopefuly you will understand what im getting at and that someone can give me some ideas!

We have a problem with our heating system, when our CH is switched off by the thermostat and the programmer the radiators still get burning hot! these problem i have put down to the hot water being on, because it never happens when the hot water is turned off! Read a few topics on here saying it could be some sort of gravity valve? but could it be something else? IE the thermostat not working proberly?

I will try and describe the way our system is set up

Downstairs in kitchen we have a potterton netaheat electronic 10-16 boiler

upstairs in our airing cupboard we have the water cylinder, with the potterton EP2000 programmer next to the cylinder thereis a grundfos ups 15-50 pump that has just been replaced, on the cylinder there is a thermostat guessing for the hot water, it was origanally on 60c but have turnt that down to 40c due to our problem, last month we have spent nearly £170 on our gas! Hope someone will be able to help me out or give me some ideas what to do!

What setting is the roomstat at?

If no roomstat what are the TRVs set to? Fit a programmable roomstat and keep the house warm and not HOT. Get the boiler serviced NOT just checked for opertaion as is often the case.

Whatever else you decide to do, restore the cylinder stat to 55/ 60 °C

Absolutely do this NOW, this temp is not just for nice hot water it is also to do with killing Bacteria

It does these when the Room stat is completly Off the TRVs are set to 4 on some rad's in the rooms we use most ie bedrooms etc

Will change this back up to 60°C now, thought that it might of been the problem!

Are there any motorized valves in the airing cupboard (will look like one of these pics)? If so which type?

Yeah there is one of these, its a honeywell?! which has been changed last month it is set onto auto?!
Presumably the one on the left, which has three pipes connected?

You will find the three brass connectors labelled: A, B and A/B. A/B connects to the pump. Check that B is connected to the HW cylinder (A connects to the radiators).

If A connects to the HW cylinder, the valve has been installed the wrong way round.
