Bit late in the design process to think about this! :(

Have you actually checked what pipe sizes run to where?
How many rads in the new bits?

If you connect the new downstairs rads to the upstairs circuit, you may run out of pipe capacity and / or operating pressure, so no heat will get downstairs.

But most 'conventional' heating systems have the pump upstairs, next to the cylinder anyway. Where's yours?

Also, depending on the size of the house, Building Regs demand separate upstairs and downstairs zones. Even if your (enlarged) house is not that big, it might still be a good idea to zone it.

Yes - but what boiler is it? Combi? system boiler? where's the pump? what size of pipe are youb planning to connect TO?
