CH Plumbing Advice

Or perhaps like to encourage DIY'ers to think for themselves a little - or at least search the forum as nearly every question has already been answered - several times.
Yeah agreed that's why it's better for novices to help each other, less repetitive when you've not been on here 10 years already!(y)
Although I did get slated on another thread for getting my knowledge from Google, and Google usually finds threads on here...

Problem with novices - they don't know their limits.

This is true.

I think it depends on how an OP will take "advice".... If it's from a pro (say, an RGI here) then it is advice. If it's from a fellow user (a DIY'er here) then personally I would take that as an opinion or at least food for thought. Unfortunately there's always someone that will put their head in an oven if given the instruction though! haha

@JayAce personally, I am absolutely sick of reading requests for advice on wiring in smart thermostats, nest ,Hive , Cosy the list goes on , it is a switch , a switch nothing else , it is just a switch, how they decide when to switch is something else, but if an OP can not work out how to wire in a switch then get a professional in , did I mention that it is just a switch ?

So what's a Nest then?

I assume it's just a variostat?!

:sneaky:

just the same as all the others Jay, they are very smart switches and connect to your mobile phone and to local Airports etc via the internet so they know the outside temperature and things , but as far as wiring them in to your boiler every one is the same , they are just a switch , the receiver can only tell your boiler , any boiler, when to come on or go off, regardless of your boiler make or model, and regardless of which smart stat you have it is just a switch as far as wiring it into your boiler is concerned

:censored:

Sorry mate I was jesting.... I had a gen.1 Nest at my last house (y)

Good bit of kit and will most likely be fitting a new one to my new place!

I rate them the best of them all Jay, but they are getting better all the time , we will get to a stage where they become too complicated again , just like every other boiler control , but it will still just be a switch ha ha

I love anything that automates and/or links to my iPhone! Have spent more money on Philips Hue than I care to admit, the fridge knows what's in itself, the bathroom scales now me better than I know myself (and reports online much to my dismay).... Connected world is getting scary complicated!

Hmmm. Being a bit of a Luddite, I would be concerned about recieving emails from the Pie and Beer marketing board reminding me that my stocks are dangerously low... But then, my van tells ford where it is, my phone tells someone in a darkend room where I am, what I'm doing and saying, Vlad Putin can post on my Bookface on my behalf and Kip Jong Ill can post here asking how to build an ICBM....

I dread the time when the intelligent home sees that a human has collapsed and makes the decision to call an undertaker instead of the ambulance.......

Well my phone/watch already alerts people if I crash my bike, I'm hoping it calls my brother or 999 rather than an undertaker though haha
