Hi,

Having a bit of a problem with my boiler and looking for some advice. For the last week or so I've had no central heating, the hot water works fine and boiler fires up perfectly whe hot water is run from the taps. However, when I switch the central heating on nothing happens at all and the rads remain stone cold. Ive tried resetting the boiler (while leaving the CH switched on) to get the flame to ignite for the central heating but it just runs through the ignition cycle for a few seconds and then stops.

If it makes any difference, I had switched my boiler off completely whilst I went on holiday for a week and this only started to happen when I came back and switched the power back on.

Jut wondering if anyone has any idea at al what the problem might be ad how to sort it out?

Any help would be much appreciated as im eager to get this sored before the cold weather really kicks in!

Cheers

There are a few other possibilities but a stuck diverter valve is one of them IF the boiler fires up for a few seconds when the boiler is cold and you select CH.

With boiler diagnostics the exact response is very important. A "few seconds" may not seem important to you but to a diagnostic engineer the exact number of seconds can be very important.

Thanks for the response.

When I switch the CH on nothing at all happens (except the CH indicator light comes on), only when I press the reset button does anything happen although it does not actually fire up when I reset it, i.e. the flame does not ignite, it just runs through the ignition cycle for literally 2 seconds and then nothing, although the light for the CH is still on as is the light for DHW. If thThe flame only ignites when there is a demand for DHW from the taps but as soon as this stops again this go out even if the CH is switched to the on position.

I 'sometimes' get the 30 40 50 fault code after pressing the reset button and boiler failing to ignite if that make any difference?

You could check the cold resistance of both sensors.

But it may be a gas setting problem which will need a gas engineer.

I dont remember fault codes but it would be worth looking that one up as it may give another clue.

Hi, really appreciate the response. When I select CH only, literally nothing happens, pump does not run, nothing except the CH 'on' light comes on but nothinh else, no noise or anything. Only when I press the reset button does the pump come on from like 2 secs and then stops with a fault code, either 30, 30 40, or 30 40 50 but cannot find meaning of these anywhere. DHW still works perfectly. Anything else I can try for a relatively easy fix or should I just bite the bullet and get an engineer in?
