Looking for a smarter way to manage your heating this winter? We’ve been testing the new Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 to see how quiet, accurate and easy it is to use around the home. Click here read our review.
It's a 5hp mower so it shouldn't have too many problems....however, clean the air filter (or run the machine without it for a test).
Has the machine been serviced at all? It may need a fuel filter (if applicable) or a carburettor clean.

Thanks, I got that one....
It's not a happy engine, is it - too much mechanical clatter in there. How about taking the valve cover off (4 bolts) and checking the valve clearances?
John
Turn the engine slowly by hand, in the direction it's supposed to spin and you'll see the valves opening and closing.
When each valve closes, the rocker should come slack.....that's the arm between the push rod and the valve top.
Ideally use a 5 thou feeler gauge between the rocker and the valve when the valve is fully shut - the gauge should just slide in. If you don't possess a feeler then you should just be able to detect some clearance between the two.
If you're happy with this then pop the cover back on.
John
I really don't like the sound of this engine.....you don't have the choke on there, do you?
It sounds like it is chuffing air when it shouldn't....is anything slack on the motor?
