Hi, I have a double light switch in my hallway, one switch controls the lights in the hall the other switch controls the landing lights.
I am wanting to change the plastic switch to a chrome switch but the back of the switches are numbered different. Can any one help me please?
My old switch has L1 , L3 , L2 at the top and L3 , L2 , L1 at the bottom.
In L1 at the top is a grey wire, No wires in L2 and blue wire with brown sleeve in L2.

In L3 at the bottom it is a Black wire with brown sleeve, in L2 there is a brown wire and in L1 is also a brown wire.
The back of my new switch I have two "L" at the top and at the bottom two "L1's" and two "L2's"
Any ideas please

So does this sound right mate?
Grey goes in "L"
One of the browns goes in the other "L"
Blue wire with brown sleeve goes in "L1"
Black wire with brown sleeve goes in "L2"
The other brown wire in "L2"
"L1" is left free

Dont get the two browns mixed, they have a different purpose.
They need to be the same position as they were for the two way to work correct

I see it as
switch 1
L grey
L1 brown
L2 black
switch 2
L brown
L1 unused
L2 blue

I really don't mean this to be offensive, or condescending, but that should have told you something.

Carrying out electrical work by following instructions of the "insert this wire into that hole" type without a genuine and full understanding of why, and how it all works, is irresponsible and dangerous.

I am a fully qualified gas engineer so no-one knows more about being responsible than me.
I am just not that good with electrics simpla as that mate!!!!
