    IMG-0307.JPG Hi All

Currently finishing up a small roof on kitchen extension partly DIY and working (v slowly) with a one man band to complete job.

Question is, do I need to chase the lead flashings into the parapet wall if it is being rendered over? The parapet wall is a crumbly wonky mess of bricks and cement so no obvious joints to chase out, would it be ok to lead seal or does it have to be chased into?

Also where should the stainless steel bead (for the rendering) sit over the lead and does it matter?

    Many thanks

Thanks guys, so lead really should be big/wide enough to extend right up to the coping stones joint? I would of thought all the lead underneath render would be potential for render cracking no?

Fascia and tiles still to do, will raise fascia up and replace tiles right at the last minute as I keep breaking them by standing on the roof!

    Appreciate replies, thank you

There would be no render, just a neatly tight pointed joint between the coping and well plugged flashing.....

Ok interesting, every house I look at has rendered parapet walls. If we wanted to render where would you place the stainless steel bead?

it does not need render or bead
or are you trying to avoid a lead flashing.. Because if you are its not the correct way

Ok fair enough, not insisting on render but every house in my area has it. Literally hundreds of terraced houses with incorrect detailing of parapet walls.

So is it tak up all the lead from tiles and start again? or install new lead from coping joint to above the lead already in place?

I am not saying the others are wrong at all. I am just saying to do yours properly it would be lead from under the coping stones dressed down and over the tiles. You have barely 100 mm 150 mm between the tiles and copings.

Take up the lead that is there? you have a crabby little bit at the bottom the rest is flashband

Flash over the whole lot and pretend its not there

And not enough clips on the soil stack 2 doors down.

  14. Is there some confusion about the lead flashing to the parapet wall ( which should be taken up under the copings as others described ) and the lead flashing to the rendered wall , where you would have the stainless steel drip you refer to , at the bottom of the render.
