Chimney breast removal...(Can i)

Hi guys

We are ready to rip apart downstairs

Hack off, new DPC ,re wire etc etc

However the wife wants the 2 fire breasts removed,The only problem i can see is that upstairs is fully decorated

Is there a way of removing them from down stairs without messing around upstairs or do they need removing total removal from top to bottom

If you just remove the ones downstairs then the ones upstairs may come down to take their place followed possibly by the entire chimney stack.

The higher brickwork must be adequately supported when the lower is removed.

You must get a professional to look at the structure and advise you.

If these are on a party wall with next door then there are likely to be conditions imposed on what you can do as sometimes the fire breasts are structural to the party wall in the form of a buttress.
