Hi all

The one of the previous owners of my house removed the chimney from the bathroom and left the stack in the loft supported by some wood beams. (Please see the photos)

My question is to if this is an accepted method or if it is unsafe?

Who would I need to get professionally to say that it is safe or not? Would it be a builder, roofer? Or someone else?

Many thanks

I've seen worse and if the 8x2s are sat on a solid wall then it's not going anywhere.

I had a similar situation in a flat we bought a few years back except the use of a lot less timber

I costed the work to £1200 (generous but justifable). offered to split the cost 50/50 with vendor who had no idea, the flat having been rented out and ended up spending about £50 and half a day

That's a structural engineer question however.
Know a local builder you can ask.
That's what I would do first. Worth paying builder for advice as they would know a structural engineer for paperwork if needed.
