Hi, just a quick question.

I live in student accommodation, at some point all rooms have contained a fireplace and the house now only contains one in the living room.

I was looking at my options of blocking up the breather vent in my room on the bottom floor as there is obviously a draft that gets through as the vent isn't great. What can I do with this in order to make the room a little warmer?

Many thanks in advance.

It's there to vent the chimney. If you block it you'll get damp in the walls surrounding the chimney which in turn will lead to significant problems.

Don't do it.

You need to retain ventilation to the chimney breast. Consider fitting a "hit and miss" type vent that you can close to retain the heat when you want to occupy the room and leave open when you are away from the house:-
