Chimney cooker Hoods

Hi All

With so many hoods on the market I am struggling to find one which I will be happy with. I have searched the net without clear cut choice. There are two one offered by homebase with good reviews and at a reasonable price. Second by B&Q again with very good reviews and reasonably priced but I am concerned what if these cheap onces pack in after a year. I am willing to spend £200-£300. Any ideas please.

More important is that you do any serious cooking, I would advise you get yourself a twin fan unit which will exceed minimum requirement, will be rather more expensive but will actually do what they are designed to rather than just look pretty. Most of the cheap units fall into this category but are sadly lacking when it comes to extraction power & the budget DIY shed units are crap.

Building Regs require a minimum extraction of 30 litres/sec over the hob, 60 litres/sec if an extractor fan is fitted elsewhere.

I have spent a week web searching and looking around for cooker hoods. Not one place could give me a make & model to go for except cheaper ones are not reliable and break down often. One fella in screwfix said he has changed 2 in last 18 months. You have rightly high lighted this.

I have narrowed down my choices to three AEG,BOSCH,SIEMENS. AEG HC3360 is not only cheaper than other two but ticks all the boxes. SIEMENS & BOSCH are about same in prices but differ slightly in quality and performance. Drawback on both is lack of cleanable metal filters but have powerful motors. The point you have raised.

I will have to decide soon which one to go for.
