Hi. We are replacing a wood burner with a 6 inch flue liner with a new wood burner with a 5 inch flue liner. Can we just run the new 5 inch flue down inside the old 6 inch flue liner?
You can use a 5" to 6" adaptor fitting. Adapting at the appliance outlet is best. That way you can use the 6" liner unless the Mfr's say you cant - why not call the Mfr's for more info?
Retrograde step to replace a 6” fue with 5” unless as mentioned the manufacturer specifies it, It limits the stove choice. You can adapt a stoves 5” flue outlet to a 6” flue but not vise versa.
Ive removed two 5” flues and replaced with 6” ones and the difference its made has made it well worth it.
