Hi,
I am re-doing my living room, and fitting a new fireplace. I aren't putting a new fire back in though, I will board the hole out, plaster it and have it as a decrative hole.

What's the rules with regards the 'top' of where I will board out? As I understand it still needs to breathe? So a piece of plaster board on top, with a certain sized hole drilled out?

Just at the moment it is quite cold with the fireplace open, so think I need to cover the hole in the top.

Thanks

Yes you need to provide some ventilation to dry out any moisture that collects in the chimney. This is best achieved by fitting a hit and miss vent allowing you to close it during the cold winter months.
