Not sure if any of you can help with this - but there's normally someone knowledgeable or who's been in a similar situation on here!

We need our chimney repointing and straightening. It's in a very bad way. It's a shared stack with the next terrace house and has eight pots on it (four each). The questions are: 1 - does this come under the party wall act and 2 - what sort of price should I be looking at for this work?

Thanks in advance!

It is possible to re-point one half of a shared chimney, but why bother.

It is not possible however, to re-build (straighten) a chimney without dismantling the whole stack. This is definitely something you need your neighbours to agree to and hopefully contribute to. Bricks have a tendency to fall down a flue or break some roof tiles, so you definitely need your neighbours on board.

An eight flue chimney will be some size and will require a scaffold and a fair amount of new bricks as the old ones will likely be shot. The pots may be salvaged and re-used.

Cost - £2000?

Thanks for that - I knew there'd be someone who could help!

Kind regards.
