Clank clank bash bash F****in' thing won't come off

Changing immersions has got to be one of the sh#tiest jobs people ask us to do. What should be a reasonable priced job can end up costing several hundreds

What size we talkin' bout ........ Lookin' fer ideally 900X400 ........ But I spose if its cheap as chips any old cyl will do ........ They only have Mr Immersion fer hot water ....... Well they got the kettle now :D

Blech, the more I think about it the more grief I think I will get my self in, trying to help em out ..........

I wonder if I could unbolt it & "Take it somwhere" ........ No I don't mean the Cinema

Make a hole in brass flange with a cup saw. Using a hacksaw, cut to (not onto) the flange thread. Cut some more keeping clear of thread. Break off the cut segment. Now the immersion element will not resist.

Have been there and done it. Mind, couple of times nearly walked.

If you don`t want to take it to the cinema what about ten pin bowling instead

I really don't know why you lot have so much trouble removing a little Ol immersion heater

Is the cylinder full, if not fill it.

Place a ring spanner made for the job over the immersion heater nut, and wack it with a club hammer  solid blows are best but not too heavy.

I guarantee it will come undone if you hit it the right way. 8)

...except for the occasional one where the copper around the boss fractures.

Not happened in 48 years so maybe a first

'specially since this once is claimed to be 60 years old...

He only disconnected the back boiler a couple O years ago :(

irrelevant of age, its still stuck ......

1. Keep cylinder fairly full of water to stabilise it, but with water level well below immersion boss level if applying heat.

2. Use box spanner and very large water pump pliers around the box spanner to get a good purchase and leverage,

3. If that isn't sufficient apply plenty of heat to head of immersion heater with a strong blowlamp until seal is weakened.

Ohh Houston ........ We have a problem ........

Tried the heat & twist method ...... & the threaded reinforcing bit is comming with the heater ...... Umm me thinks this is 10 tonne trucked..... Time for ebay me thinks.

I should of just left it alone

Why oh why oh why did I stick my neb in :x

Well if you's a listened and NoT used heat it would have been fine.

Heat anneals the copper,(it makes it softus)
