Can anybody let me have the specs (ID and OD diameter) of these pipes, both HD and LD types, or a website that does. I am having terrible trouble identifying them in my old piping.

Yes - lots of references to them, and the BS standards, but no dimensions.

From the WRAS web site:

OK, so I have 1/2inch black pipe. It is not MDPE. It is class c or d, HD or LD.
There are four possible choices- class c, HD or LD and class d, HD or LD.
Most manufacturers do four adaptors for these pipes - light and dark blue and light or dark green. Without seeing these adaptors ie not knowing the diameter of the part that goes inside the pipe what one do i use.

Hence the original question

One looks on the side of the pipe, and reads the blue or green writing

if the pipe is black it is MDPE class C or D, inserts are dirt cheap so buy both
