Hi all,
Please can someone advise me?
This is how the current ceiling pendant light is attached. For some reason there are two Earths attached to the current pendant. As you can see there are 3 wires and one Earth wire attached to the metal of the light fitting itself. (First 2 pics)

Brand new fitting only requires Neutral and Live wires. Can I pop the two Earth wires that aren't needed anymore in the choc block pictured?

As there are three cables, then there should be three earth wires - plus the one to the light fitting.

Yes, plus find the other one and connect that as well.

However, is the new ceiling 'cup' in the latest picture made of metal?

There are 3 Earths...The third Earth is in a block as it wasn't needed.
Yes the new light fitting cup is metal will that be a problem? Worried now.

Anyone know if it will be a problem if my Class 2 light fitting is metal?

Thay are all needed and should be connected together.

No need to worry - but as it is metal and Class 2, all those connectors and wires should not be in the cup, but in the ceiling.

However, this raises the problem that all such connections above the ceiling should be in an enclosure.

I see, ok, I'll connect it and tuck them in the ceiling and then I will get the enclosure asap and I'll put all of the wires in that instead. Thank you!
