Clothes washer drain pump with not shutoff!

When the washer is running through its cycle it will drain after the wash cycle; however, when it tries to fill for the rinse cycle the pump won't shutoff so the water continues in and pumps right out. The first time this happened we had left after starting the machine, so the water ran for 5 hours. This doesn't happen everytime but is getting worse.
