What thickness CLS should be used to allow enough space for a shower mixer valve to fit in please? I this the same size that will let me run a basin waste pipe in to?

I used 4x2 but depends on mixer as they vary a great deal in design and dimensions .
Perfect... 4x2 sounds great. Can a wall hung basin waste go through a 4x2 stud wall ok? What size is that waste?

No problem , 11/4” waste ,best to increase run to 11/2” as soon as convenient to avoid blockages.
