coded keys./

just how good are coded keys, i have a 1993 escort which has a coded ignition key, ive heard there not that great, security wise./
i would be intrested in what the general opinion is on this from anyone on here. regards.r.r.

If you are talking about security as in stealing your car they are quite good,problems come when the keys start to get worn your doors will tend to lock but not open,progamed keys then become expensive,but if your keys are the type with a red or blue bung in the end you can change the chip that is behind it by carefully prising open the bung and swapping the new chip for yours,a cheaper way still is to buy a normal ford key,remove the chip from the worn key and place it with some silicon next to the barrel,an un programmed key will now work!!!!!!!!!Be careful now though because if anyone now gets into your car they will be able to start it!

thanks ,struggling / for that imfo, yes it was security wise i was intrested in ,as to how good they are if you get get some scum bag trying to pinch your pride and joy/ like ripping the shrouding off and bypassing the key/chip/ ? or whatever they try and do these days.

just an update to my posting about how good are coded keys ?. i see that this posting could [ if i was a thief ] be a way of trying to find out how to bypass the chip etc.
i can assure readers it was only to find out how good they are , as i am over 60yrs along in my age and have a 1993 m reg escort which i value very much and would like to keep . yours regards.r.r.

Bottom line, if the thief hasn't got a correctly coded key, or chip at the very least, the car isn't going anywhere.

I worked for both Ford and Vauxhall dealerships over the past 12 years, and we couldn't start them without these, either that or having to reprogram the system.
