hey guys, i have just had to repair a pipe at my daughters, her husband put a nail through it, anyway after repairiung the pipe i filled up but the downstairs rads are not getting warmi have ventad and am getting water at all the rads but just have no idea what it could be. the pipe i had to fix was the flow pipe and that gets nice and hot but the pipe alongside it which i assume is the return is cold any suggestions please
thanks
Bill

probably an air lock on the return pipe.
close the upastairs rads and the full flow will push the air lock out.
once downstairs running ok re open upstairs rads.

just count the turns you shut each rad then you can put them back after the downstairs is circulating.

seco,
thanks for the reply i have tried that as i suspected that might be the case, i closed the lockshield valves as there are trv's controlling the rads but no joy where would the air go should i be bleeding at the same time ????
appreciate your help
Bill

the air should find its way out the open vent or to a rad.
don't bleed while system running.

are the drop down pipes from upstairs both cold or the flow hot return cold ?

make sure the heating is only calling and not hw aswell.
and turn the pump to its highest setting 3.

both drop down pies are cold
have treid both the heating on its own and hw too daughter is saying that one of the rads downstairs is now getting warm....not hot just warm does this help

problem seems to be sorted the rads now appear to be getting warm, i am beginning to think the problem must be sludge which now appears to have dissolved , i guess the system needs flushing
really appreciate your help
regards
Bill

what was the condition of the water when you drained the system ?
the rads should be heating quicker than they are so poss crud in the system.
