Cold turkey this christmas! (boiler problem)

HI there,

I have had my current boiler for 14 months so its just past its 1 year warranty and its suddenly broke! if possible i want to fix the problem without calling someone out.

the make and model is an ideal isar He24.

problem: the led reads that there is a flame detection error. there is a burner light that flashes but doesnt stay illuminated as it should. i have tried the reset button and it seems to ignite for a short time then extinguishes. i noticed there wasnt much gas pressure at the boiler inlet according to the valve reading...

does anyone have any suggestions?

Yes the condensate trap will be blocked.

Gas pressure at inlet to gas valve must not drop below 18mb

possible faults
gas valve £100

ignition lead £30

flame sense lead £20

blocked condense trap (ollski beat me to it most prob fault but normally happens after 2-3 years) also check condense pipework for blockages

will require corgi engineer
these boilers will keep us engineers busy in the future pcb can also blow due to fan being faulty thus needing pcb + fan has any one tried to recharge ex vessel yet looks like boiler has to come off wall for that

by the way, how much would the going rate be to fix a blocked condense trap (if that is what is the problem)

and,

for all the above fixes would i have to call out an engineer?

30min to 1 Hours labour (min charge will be 1 hour) also may need new trap at about £20 approx, recommend service done while fixing fault.

but you can check the condense pipework for blockages.

Striclty speaking corgi job but for goodness sake it's just a trap with dog wee in it, clean it out and see where you go from there, seal it up right though, otherwise products of combustion could leak into house.

After 1 year in all honesty all it needs is thecondense trap cleaning out, heat ex shouldn't need doing until next year, then you can get an engineer, but watch him, many train their men to put analyser in flue and not actually clean anything if reading is satisfactory.

I recommend two yearly proper service.

Of course manufacturers like you to have an anual service.
