Hi,
I have been advised my washing machine should be a cold water fill but when I fit a y piece to my cold water tap, it is really close to the ground and I struggle to get the pipes onto it without them kinking. Does anyone know a way round this? Or if I get a y piece that is smaller than standard size? Its really frustrating and any advice would be appreciated

Can you not get the water pipe altered and fit 2 seperate isolation valves one for each appliance your supplying.

ok at the risk of sounding stupid (I am new to this) do you mean extend the water supply pipe? Because it points downwards and seems like if I add any length to it, it will get closer to the ground....

Theres two 'in' bits (?) going into the washing machine. It did have one hot and cold in there but have been advised both should be cold. And checking the brochure its right and machine did originally come with a y piece adapter for that purpose. It was wrongly installed with a hot and cold and was working but not brilliantly. I kind of wish i'd left it alone now though!

If it is fitted with 2 inlets, then there's one for cold and err another one for cold.
It is a hot and cold fill.

New machines are generally cold-only fill due to the water they use nowadays (less). Hot water doesn't reach machines before they've reached capacity.

Replace the washing machine valve (which I presume is the tap you refered to, and I also presume is straight) with an angle one with the outlet pointing upwards. Screw the Y piece onto that. That should do the trick.

That, my friend, sounds like a solution. I've just put the cold and hot back on as I need to do a wash and it does function that way but I know it should be cold fill really so will get one of those bad boys and have another crack at it. Thanks!

but I know it should be cold fill really
No, really, as it has 2 inlets it was designed, marketed and sold as a hot AND cold fill, regardless of the advice you've been given.
It will work as a cold fill. The machines integral heater heats the water to the required temperature.

The manufacturers instructions seem to indicate that it was designed, marketed and sold as a cold fill. The y piece is supposed to go on the cold water supply tap so that cold water goes into both inlets. So the instructions say anyway
