Hi

I recently changed the ballcock in the cold water tank in my loft, as the overflow pipe at the side of the house was constantly leaking. This hasn't fixed the problem however, because it's still leaking even though the water level is below the overflow hole on the tank

Anyways, there's a small tank next to the main tank, which is also connected to the overflow, so presumably that's what's leaking.

Could anyone tell me what this tank is for (I'm not a plumber), and what's likely to be causing it to overflow?

Cheers

Obviously not that tank then :!:
It is the feed and expansion tank for the heating.
Presumably it has never always did this so therefore you have a pressure problem with your heating system possibly due to a build up of sludge which is causing an increase in pressure throughn the system causing it to "pump over"
The system needs flushing out (see FAQ) or replacing.
