combi - boiler - no hot water

when you turn the hot tap on the boiler fires up and within a few seconds cuts out. so we dont have any hot water. anyone any ideas?

I am nopt a plumber or heating engineer. do the radiators get hot?

if so that would indicate your boiler is working fine, but it sounds like the valve which determines where the hot water goes to i.e. rads or taps is stuck. if this is the case i would suggest a heating engineer since boilers are not for the faint hearted
