Hi does anyone know if its possible to replace a timer on my boiler for any digital kind or does it have to be compatible? I have a Valiant Turbomax running off of an old "dial-type" timer which I would like to replace with a digital one.

I take it your old dial type is just a fancy on/off swith for the heating? If it is, you can usually buy an off the shelf digital timer and do a like for like swap. The backplate often fits the new digital type so you don't have to drill any new holes.
