Hello everyone,I have a problem with an 'Ocean Alpha 240p combi boiler'.
I have just moved house and am having trouble running a hot bath.I get about 2" of hot water before it goes cold.If I turn the tap on so it's just trickling it sometimes gets hot again.Do all combi's do this (I've never had one before)the central heating works fine.Water from the downstairs tap gets hot and looks a milky colour?
Also I have a huge tank in the loft cold water goes to it and to the shower and i guess it feeds the central heating? Can I put a smaller tank in its place,if so what size. The shower is a bit rubbish,is there a special type I need to replace it with, whats best.

Thank you very much in advance,I appreciate your help.

Sounds to me as though your boiler is overheating in HW mode, possibly due to water scale, but it is hard to tell without seeing it. It is definitely not working properly from what you say, but I think you need to get a combi repair engineer in. It's not a DIY job to fix it.

The milky look to the hot water is nothing to worry about, it's very common. It's air being precipitated from the water on heating. Fill a glass with the milky water, leave it on the windowsill for a couple of minutes and you'll see it go clear as the bubbles rise and disperse.

You don't normally expect to find ANY tanks in the loft with a combi. Sounds like a bit of a bodge. The repair engineer is the best person to advise you on how to get the shower working well.

Cheers, Mike
