Combi vs regular thermostat question

Just got round to buying a new thermostat for the boiler.

Got it home and started reading the instructions, and noticed it says "combi stat" and is for combi boilers (mine is not).

It does however look identical to the one I'm replacing in terms of wiring.

The old one utilizes four wires:

Live
Call For Heat
Neutral
Earth

The new one has the same.

The instructions say to use the earth loop as it's double insulated so that's fine, and it says use terminals:
"L" for live, "N" for neutral, "3" for the Call and ignore "2"

So is it ok to use this one, or is there some fundamental difference between this and a non-combi?

Thanks!

A stat is a stat. All I can think of is that by calling it a 'combi stat' they are actually meaning it is just a single channel timer/programmer :?

A stat may be a stat in the term here.

A stat is far from being a thermal on / off , they are calibrated for on / off temps

But the temperature range on either type for turning the heating on/off would be the same regardless yeah?

ie. 20 degrees on regular is still 20 on combi...

Do you really mean the stat fitted to the boiler or are you actually talking about the one on the wall which controls the temperature in the room?

Make and Model of old stat?
