Combined stain blocker and knotting

Hello

Not using a lot of either, can I buy a tin of a stain blocking paint such as 123 (which I use for covering water stains on ceilings) and use it as a knotting solution? Ideally water based but not too fussed.

Zinsser recommend BIN rather than 123 for knots.

I've tried some Zinsser Cover stain (because it was in B&q in an aerosol so no clean up to worry about). So far so good, I'll try and remember to report back in some months to advise if there has been any staining from the knots.
