There is quite a lot of his content I don't particularly like. But his comedic skills and rapport with the audience are second to none. Just watch and see how a combination of perfect comic timing and self deprecation can have the audience eating out of your hands. Then compare to someone like Ricky Gervais who has no comedic skill whatsoever.

I can't stand Sandi Toksvig or Jeremy Hardy or any of that crowd. Smug, aloof R4 types. The sort who go on QI. But as somebody who understands the mechanics of being funny very well, it is a pleasure to watch a master like Stewart Lee at work.

I haven't heard the joke by Jimmy Carr but from the headlines i can understand why a joke like that is offensive to the people concerned...it's impossible to find anything funny about the Holocaust and i agree he should be censured but he's always pushed the boundaries of good taste to make people wince and i'm sure he'll do it again.
I've never been a fan of stand-up comedy as they always come across as a bit too needy - apart from Robin Williams, who could bring me to the point of an aneurysim when he was on form.
Extremists aren't going to get any worse for hearing a joke, nor will they change their minds by listening to the wailing of the Woke.

He was very, very, good in One Man Two Guvnors.

And too late now, but you could have tried Ken Dodd.

Ken Dodd was a true standup in every sense of the word. A comedian trained in the old Music Hall tradition and one of the very few who could hold an audience with a reel of gags that could run for hours.

The finest of all, imo, is the legendary Les Dawson.
