Hi

I am sure that have read some where, that when a CH pump e.g. Grundfos is fitted to a CH system ( which is new system or has been fully drained system ) that the pump spindle should be manually rotated before electrical power is applied to ensure that there is water on both sides of the pump.

If this is not done there is a chance that the bearings could be damaged ?

Am I correct ?

just loosen of the big screw on the pump and when a small drip of water comes out tigten it up job done, good luck.

2 reasons. Though unlikely, it could be that the pump is stuck in which case it would burn the motor out.
Primarily it is to make sure that there is enough water present to lubricate and cool
