Hi all,

Thanks to anyone taking the time to read through.

I had a drainage company around to CCTV my drains and recommend repairs. In the end we agreed a full replacement would be the best long term solution.

For context, I am a natural born worrier and always think the worst case scenario…

Given replacing the main sewer line will involve digging within 3m of my property boundary (may require building approval, etc I believe).

Essentially what steps can I take as a customer to ensure all work is compliant and done safely, etc? I’ve no reason to doubt the drain company, but don’t want to go ahead to be told down the line I should have done x, y, z.

Should it be a job for a builder?

I’m just confusing myself more the more I read, so would really appreciate any advice!

Appreciate it isn’t a DIY question, but hopefully you’ll forgive that.

The drainage company will do the work themselves or sub it out depending on their available resources . Definitely needs bc approval in advance, don’t assume they will get it. Also a party wall notification if within 3 metres and deep enough.
Why the need for a new system? What are the issues that prevent a localised repair?

Building regs approval will give you some level of comfort, but as above, are the drains shared with a neighbour?

How old is the property and why did you have the Drain Company round in the first place?

I rather suspect they have sensed your unease, quickly gathered you have little knowledge of drainage, and taken full advantage to extract as much money out of you as possible. Unless you've major issues with Pitch Fibre pipework, (and even that is salvageable sometimes), it is highly unlikely you will need a complete replacement of the system!

One Outfit in particular with rather brightly coloured Vehicles isn't known as "D*** Rob" in the Industry without good reason.

At the very least, get another opinion before parting with any money. What area of the Country are you in?
