Hi I’m looking to buy a composite door as my wooden door has seen better days and is starting to crack. I’m aware that the composite door will come in its own frame and so generally you would remove the existing wooden frame and fit the composite one to the brickwork. Is this absolutely necessary? Would I be able to remove the door stop part of the existing frame and then attach the composite door frame to the existing wood frame screwing through the wood into the brick behind? The reason I ask is that the frame is in a good state and I wonder if I would do more damage to the render and brick work if I removed it.

If I do have to remove it would you attach a piece of upvc edging to cover the part of the wall which the new door frame won’t cover but the original one did as the render is up to the wider original wood frame?

Thanks for all your help and advice

Depends on the current dimensions as keeping the current frame obviously reduces available space for new frame and door.

Thanks. There would be space for the new door and frame even if the wooden frame was left as the current door is quite wide. Is there any specific reason to attach it directly to the wall/bricks or is it just generally good practice? Thanks
