Have you actually googled it? There's bits and bobs online even some interesting YouTube videos (expressions Ltd). Just cannot see how you could ever be quids in doing it, even fully DIY, with the days of research, mould and formwork fabrication, the various sealers/finishes etc. Better off spending your time earning money and just buying a normal bath that fits. I don't get the step thing, surely you can just sit on the edge and get in that way, or just buy a plastic step that you step onto, then lift it out when you're in, you can't achieve grand designs without a grand designs budget.

This sounds like something I would say so maybe I'm just a bit dumb when it comes to my own stuff. Have googled comprehensively and it seems that most of the concrete artwork on the web originates in the states.. They do go all out with molds etc, but I wasn't thinking I'd need it to be that repeatable a process.. I essentially already had the tub sides in the studs of the timber frame so it was a case of making the hollow section of the tub in ply, suspending it in place and pouring down the side of it, and vibrating everythign wih a blunt chisel on the SDS drill..

The problems with the usa derived stuff I see is that it seems to have 4 inch thick walls and floors, and I don't see many of them on the first floor. I could see my way to installing underfloor heating pipes in the tub and heating it permanently as part of the bathroom heating, which may help reduce the heat loss in the water..

The step thing is.. Well, think about every jacuzzi you've ever sat in.. It's not just a tub in the floor, it has a set of steps incorporated into it. The depression in my floor is a 2.4 x 1m rectangle, 300 mm deep. If I had a step or landing at 150 high then getting in and out is easy.. I've got old and doddery family members to think about, and the bath is the shower tray too.. I'm also looking at fitting some kind of step to an off the shelf bath but finding the bath is the problem. As noted, the Duravit nahho is the closest I've seen a production bath come


I also really like the sinks with the slot drains in and I'm thinking of doing a concrete one of those just as a test.

Why not do it in fibreglass (or carbon fibre/Kevlar if you've got the cash)? Big problem doing it DIY would be the gel coat but there's a lad down the road from me makes fairings for racing sidecars and they're all one-offs so sure he could do something for you. Won't be cheap (£1000 odd) but will be a lot lighter than concrete & easier to fit taps, waste etc. Or chat up your local boat builders?
