Concrete blocks - huge variety in prices?

I need about 100 blocks, and other than the first two courses (approx 24) they could be lightweight... In fact given the job is off scaffold I'd prib rather they were..
Seems to be a hue range of prices.. I can't see the wood for the trees!
Which blocks and from where? I'm in mid devon....

Why can't the first couple of courses be lightweight?

For domestic work, most blocks will be suitable from a strength point of view. Where they different is thermal conductivity and how they take a finish (eg render), so this may determine the specific type. For a mere 100 blocks it will need to be somewhere local for delivery - that's a small order.

Building on top of an existing brick wall and the brickie (father in law) seemed to think it was a good idea to start with heavy ones...

Ask on the plastering section. I presume this is some kind of outbuilding not subject to building regs.
