Need to lay a concrete lintel for the U beams to sit on. unfortunately, the only lintel I can get will mean that I'll have a 40mm mortar joint between the block work and lintel.
Someone has told me that this is OK if I layer the mortar with slate i.e mortar, slate, mortar etc until I get the 40mm.
Anyone got any thoughts on this or any other ideas (have thought about getting a larger lintel, but then by the time I cut it down to the required height I would be losing one of the reinforcement bars).
Also, getting conflicting suggestions on fitting U beams. What's the best way to do it, do they need to be placed on a bed of mortar on the lintel?
