cement:ballast 1:4 or cement:sand:aggregate 1:2:3



foundation

cement:ballast 1:5 or cement:sand:aggregate 1:2.5:3.5



paving and drives

cement:ballast 1:3.5 or cement:sand:aggregate 1:1.5:2.5

What is the general rule of thumb for quantity of water?

depends on what you are doing with it.

If you are haunching then a dry mix, if you are pouring a nice "slumpy" mix.

If I said 3 buckets of water...are we talking about a sand castle bucket , "builders bucket" or general purpose bucket? All different sizes.
