hi!

I'm wanting to set a 80mm x 80mm x 5mm steel section into the ground to make a gate post that i can weld hinge pins onto and hang my steel gate from. Never set a steel post in the ground before... is there anything I need to consider?

Should it be treated first? Do I need to drill drain holes or anything?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Matthew

weld a plate on the bottom, drill 4 holes in each.concrete a pad in the ground.drill the concrete and fix the steel to the pad,put a shim under the centre of the post plate and tighten the fixings ina way the post is nice and plumb.backfill hole with concrete to depth you want your soil etc.

thats just 1 way of doing it.

or put it in the same way as a normal fence post, but nice and deep if its supporting a gate
