Hi,

We have a 4 bed detached with cavity wall insulation and good loft insulation, these last few mornings the condensation has been dreadful upstairs, all our rooms have it

What can we do to improve the position ?

We have the heating on for 2-3 hours on an evening but not in the mornings yet, the bedroom windows are closed at night.

Does the house need better ventilation ?

TIA,
Mike.

Every house I've lived in has been the same. The window glass gets colder and colder as the outside temperature drops, heat from your house rises (and obviously you breathe out warm moist air when you're asleep) which collects on the windows as condensation.

I suppose you could buy a dehumidifier.

While you are sleeping you are breathing out about 300 cc of water vapour per person.

If the window is cold then it will condense on it as your photo shows.

Thats worse if you keep the room door closed !

The solution is to have more ventilation to the outside in the room.

OR

Have the heating on to warm to above the condensation temperature!

The wife is always drying clothes in the house, this must be a huge factor, i guess no more washing of them until Spring now...
