Hi, I wonder if somebody could offer me some advice?

In my kitchen I have a 1KW electric plinth heater (it used to be 2KW but I have disconnected 1 of the heating elements as it was bubbling the silver paint that I resprayed the front grill with).
Unfortunately it does not have a thermostat so once switched on it just runs continously. I would like to connect it to a room stat mounted on the wall, but am unsure whether a conventional stat would be capable of switching this amount of current, or the best way to wire it up?

Please advise.

an ordinary CH room stat is usually rated at 3Amps so not enough for your electric heater.

I have seen 16A rated stats but you will have to search round for one.

Try TLC for a start, they have a good range, or your local electrical wholesaler.

You could use a 3A stat with a Contactor, but this would be expensive and is not a DIY job.

Thanks John, I have seen some higher rated room stats but was unsure whether they would do the job, or the best way to wire it up. Could I just switch the live feed to the heater with the stat and use it to switch that?

HO HRT2 . That should do the job, and not as ugly as the other ones :D

Fused Connection Unit

(you need one with a DP switch)

Some people call thenm switched spurs

Crabtree, MEM, MK are good brands

if you get one with a neon like this one, you will not absent-mindedly leave it on so often

oh yeah thats OK, Im more familiar with the fused spur term. At the moment it just has a plug on the end  But I will be doing a proper install and putting in a FCU.

Cheers for your help!!
