Im looking to put some led light strips on the underside of cupboards in the kitchen but on one side i have a gap where the extractor hood is and would need to connect either side together (See pic). I wouldn't want visible wires so I think the only option would be to go up inside the cupboard one side, over the top and down inside the other.

How is this done, i assume its a common thing?

Your cable route choice may be dictated by where you expect to get power for the lights, and where a switch might go. That’s your choice.
Given the layout, up inside (or behind) the cupboards and across the convenient bridge.
