I wish to mount a 240v triple metal spotlight in my conservatory containing 50w bulbs. It will be fixed to a perspex panel just below the plastic polycarbonate roof. The bulbs do get quite hot i have found. I need to know

1. Is it safe to mount it on the perspex panel.
2. Is it safe to position it with the bulbs a couple of inches below the roof panel.

Is this likely to be a fire hazard.

There is a regulation to say how close a spotlight should be from a combustible surface. The base itself is okay to mount onto plastic but the light will give of alot of heat and will discolor the conservatory roof and as you stated may even burn it

Play it safe and install a normal light in this area. I always fit fans with a light built into it for those hot days :D
