Conservatory showing wear and tear - best next step?

Hi

Just wondering if anyone could offer any advice. I am writing on behalf of my widowed elderly mother-in-law.

Her small conservatory (12m2) is showing signs of wear and tear. There is a soil pipe running through the polycarbonate roof that now leaks. There are also other parts of the roof leaking at the joins to the roof frame.

I contracted one contractor who quoted approx £9k to replace the roof with polycarbonate - I have lived abroad for 15 years so am unaware of current prices, but I nearly fell over after hearing that!

Another contractor I contacted stated

the soil pipe that is causing the problem and the roof cut around it. Supply and fitting a new polycarbonate roof will probably not resolve this issue completely and we wouldn’t be able to offer a warranty against it leaking around the soil pipe.

Given all of this, would it just be best to remove the entire thing?

Gorilla clear waterproof patch tape for the other leaky bits.

Lots of ready made collars available to get a seal around any pipes.The joints can be tapped down for any loose areas on the roof or removed and reapplied with new seals .Lots of videos on YouTube showing simple roof repairs .

If she doesn't use it much or at all, then remove the entire thing. It will save prospective future buyers being put off by them having to sort it.

This is accurate. Same thing happened to us - quoted £5k for flat roof, later found out they were travellers, got it done with a reputable roofer for £1k who said all the other stuff they said was "wet" was absolute twoddle. Trouble is they have proper vans with proper graphics so you think they're legit
