Its timber frame and the windows are sealed in with 1/4 round bead.

Some of the frame has split apart so I need to remove the windows to get the repairs done.

Rather than refitting the windows with new 1/4 bead, is there any problem with using putty to seal the windows in? My thoughts are putty is better for water proofing.

Is it double glazed? Standard putty attacks the seal between the panes and may pop them.

I've just re-glazed my hardwood door with Flexistrip butyl putty tape then replaced the beads. Looks good. You can get foam tape in various widths too. Have a look at dry glazing videos.

Yes, its double glazed but having been built it 1994, I don't know what the glazing seals are made of.

Rather daft that the industry doesn't have a putty for double glazing application.

The beading is tattered so would have to but new.
