Constant overflow from toilet

Hey - absolute novice at DIY, appreciate any help..

Toilet is constantly trying to till and dripping all the time- then using overflow to discarded outside. Even when I lift the mechanism is still doesnt stop.

It is an old toilet. Any advise please?

If it's the valve that's passing then a new fill valve should sort it out. Just need to take note of the bottom connection and make sure the new one will fit properly etc.
